Chopin Airport cargo hits new record high

Chopin Airport handled over 43,000 tonnes of cargo in 2011, an increase of 6.8% on 2010 and the best result in the airport’s history.  
Over the 12 months of 2011, a total of 43,600 tonnes of cargo passed through the Warsaw airport, including 42,900 t in international traffic (up 6.5%) and 740 t on domestic routes (up 29%). Imports accounted for the majority of cargo traffic reaching 25,000 t, while outbound freight volumes stood at 17,800 t. The amount of mail handled totalled 16,900 t.  
The most popular cargo destinations by volume included Cologne (7,600 t), Leipzig (6,100 t), Chicago (3,700 t), New York/Newark (3,400 t) and Shanghai (2,800 t), The biggest cargo carriers were LOT Polish Airlines (14,400 t), UPS Airlines (11,100 t), European Air Transport (6,300 t), Sprint Air (1,800 t) and Air Contractors (1, 600 t). 
Industrial spare parts and consumables, medicines, books and magazines were the most shipped goods. 
Chopin Airport is the largest airport in Poland. It handles scheduled, charter, general aviation and cargo traffic. In 2011, the airport served more than 9.3 million passengers. It accommodates 27 scheduled airlines (including three budget carriers) offering flights to 77 destinations in 38 countries on four continents in 2011/12 Winter Season.
