NY air cargo firm has been fined

New York air cargo company OHL Solutions has been fined US$1 million after investigators found workers had falsified documents and failed to perform explosives screenings on all bellyhold cargo at Indianapolis airport.
The penalty is the largest regulatory fine ever levied by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for violating security requirements.
Prosecutors said OHL Solutions, formerly ActivAir, "engaged in a systemic pattern of record-keeping violations by failing to properly screen for explosives", reported The Associated Press.
The ActiveAir facility was closed in February 2011 after it was discovered that workers put stickers on cargo showing items had been screened when they had not and falsified documents before January 2010, said US Attorney Joe Hogsett.
Mr Hogsett also said the company agreed to take steps to screen all cargo destined for passenger aircraft.
"ActivAir's management recognises the importance of TSA security measures and has taken decisive action to prevent the recurrence of the compliance failures discovered at its Indianapolis branch office," said company vice president and general counsel Frank Eichler in a statement.
