Aden terminal docks its biggest ship

Aden Container Terminal (ACT), operated by global marine terminal operator DP World, has received and serviced the 8,441-TEU MSC Tomoko, the largest containership ever to call at Yemen's main port, the Shipping Gazette reports.
DP World Aden ensured a quick turnaround for the 332-metre mega ship, which draws 14.7 metres. The MSC Tomoko was berthed for a total of 14 hours and 30 minutes at the terminal that opened in 1999.
Said DP World vice president Faisal Al Qahtani: "DP World Aden occupies a strategic position as a gateway port to meet the needs of Yemen importers and exporters, and is also well placed to capture the significantly growing transshipment volumes in the Gulf of Aden region, one of the most important transit points along the east-west trade route."
Arthur Flynn, general manager, added, "Servicing the biggest container vessel to ever visit our terminal was a major achievement for us, and we are proud of the high level of efficiency and dedication with which our operations team handled such a large vessel."
Aden has one of the finest natural harbours with 16 metres alongside Berths 1 and 2 and a 48 hectare terminal area.
