North Carolina container volume up 11.2pc

North Carolina ports posted an 11.2 per cent year-on-year increase in container handling in 2011 to 287,467 TEU, reported the Wilmington Star News.
Wilmington also showed gains in agricultural volume with 414,000 tons of animal feed and grain imported and trucked to livestock producers throughout southeastern part of the state, said the North Carolina State Port Authority (NCSPA).
In Morehead City, 1,912,036 tons of bulk and breakbulk cargo was moved - up two per cent year on year with woodchip exports rising after a dormant decade.
"Especially in these tough economic times, the ports are committed to serving the heritage industries of North Carolina," said NCSPA interim CEO Jeff Strader.
