Throughput at Frankfurt Airport, the second largest air cargo hub in Europe, dropped 9.1 per cent to 155,105 tonnes in February year on year.
But the February decline showed an improvement from the performance of January that posted a 16.8 per cent year-on-year decrease.
The total cargo handled in the first two months of 2012 was 296,444 tonnes, down 12.9 per cent compared to the same period in 2011, according to the figures from airport owner Fraport AG.
Total throughput at Fraport's five majority-owned airports, including Lima in Peru, Antalya in Turkey and Burgas and Varna in Bulgaria, shrank 9.2 per cent in February to 174,620 tonnes.
Rival London Heathrow airport reported a two per cent decline in February freight traffic to 115,920 tonnes, which was 2.7 per cent lower than the first two months of 2012 at 228,244 tonnes. Lufthansa cargo volume was down 3.4 per cent in February, the Shipping Gazette informs.
