MAN Truck & Bus Deutschland and AeroGround Flughafen München GmbH have signed a framework agreement on the delivery of 46 MAN regular-service buses for transporting airline passengers at Munich's "Franz Josef Strauß" airport. The vehicles will be delivered in three batches by 2014.
The order of AeroGround Flughafen München GmbH includes 19 MAN Lion's City solo buses and 27 MAN Lion's City G articulated buses. Aero-Ground has also entered into servicing agreements with MAN Truck & Bus Deutschland for all 46 vehicles. The interior fittings of the buses have been optimised for standing room (four people per square metre) in order to provide high passenger capacity. The solo buses have space for 67, the articulated buses for up to 100 passengers each. Powerful air-conditioning systems guarantee a high level of comfort in all vehicles. The kneeling feature makes it easier for passengers to board and exit.
Efficient MAN common-rail diesel engines delivering 206 kW (280 hp) to the solo and 235 kW (320 hp) to the articulated buses meet the stringent requirements of the EEV emission standard. Voith four-speed automatic transmissions transmit that power to the driving axles.
Around 38 million airline passengers use Bavaria's international air-transport hub every year. With an increase of nine percent in the number of passengers, Munich is the fastest-growing airport in Germany.
