Denver International Airport sees small dip in passenger traffic for January 2012

January 2012 brought a small dip in passenger traffic at Denver International Airport (DIA) with a reported total of 3,905,138 passengers traveling through the facility during the first month of the year. The figure represents a 0.6 percent decline from the 3,928,336 travelers who used the airport during the same month last year, or a decrease of 23,198 passengers.  This slight drop comes on the heels of DIA’s announcement that 2011 was a record-breaking year with nearly 53 million travelers passing through the nation’s fifth-busiest airport.
“DIA has seen consistent, positive growth over the course of the last few years," said Aviation Manager Kim Day. "The slight dip in January's passenger traffic is likely a result of carrier capacity reductions, but we're still cautiously optimistic that we'll continue to see essentially flat traffic in the coming months."
January brought a 5.1 percent decrease in flight operations, which fell from 52,223 in 2011, to 49,541 in 2012.  Cargo saw a decrease of 7.7 percent with 36,969,503 pounds of total cargo handled in January 2012, compared to 40,074,187 pounds during the same month last year.
