UIA introduces new checked baggage policy – charging according to the Piece Concept

  30.05.2012

As of June 2012 Ukraine International Airlines introduce a new checked baggage policy – Piece Concept, – based not on surcharging per every kilo of excess baggage but on charging fixed cost per every excess baggage piece*.
According to the new rules, excess baggage charging system will be simplified and become even more cost-efficient for passengers – they will not have to pay for every excess kilo: the charge for the second and subsequent baggage pieces will be fixed. Moreover, free baggage allowance has been increased from 20 to 23 kilos.
The rules for excess baggage according to the Piece Concept will apply to passengers purchasing tickets for UIA flights starting June 1. Previously applied Weight concept will still be applied to passengers having their tickets issued prior to this date and departing after June 1.
“The introduction of the new checked baggage policy was preceded by a continuous and solid piece of work – we have carefully studied the experience of the world’s leading airlines and our code-share partners who have long been successfully using this concept, – noted Anton Borysyuk, UIA Vice-President Services and Logistics. – By introducing the Piece Concept, we take a step towards our passengers – the new checked baggage policy is designed to maximally simplify baggage formalities and calculation of services fee. The system introduced is simple and passenger-friendly: now they do not need to worry about the kilos of excess baggage, since the charge for every excess baggage piece is fixed and substantially lower than an average cost a passenger pays when the Weight Concept is applied”.
