New StreetLite® Max to challenge heavy bus market
Combining the spacious feel of a big bus with the flexibility and fuel consumption of a smaller vehicle, Wrightbus has unveiled the 11.5 metre StreetLite® Max. Introducing the new model, Wright Group Managing Director Mark Nodder said, “Our target was to produce a high capacity light weight bus, which was more economical to own than any similar vehicle. This new 11.5 metre model is the next stage in the development and evolution of our StreetLite® range.”
Significant interest has already been shown by major operators in trials during the early part of the year. The vehicle is available to order immediately and Wrightbus expects to complete the first deliveries by the Autumn. “The level of initial operator interest in the new variant is particularly pleasing,” continued Mark Nodder. “Feedback from our trials was extremely positive and we believe that this new vehicle challenges conventional thinking in the bus market.
“The StreetLite® product range is specifically designed to address the growing requirements of our customers and the new 11.5 metre Max variant delivers greater fuel efficiency, combined with the increased seating capacity associated with a larger bus.”
David Spence, Transport Officer for the Western Education and Library Board in Northern Ireland had the opportunity to experience the new variant first hand, during trials. “It’s a really nice bus,” he explained. “It was reliable and handled well and whilst it carries a lot of passengers, it was still really fuel efficient.”
The innovatively designed 11.5 metre StreetLite® Max is 2445mm wide and 2990mm high. It provides an impressive maximum seating capacity of 44 and an overall carrying capacity of 70. Compliant with all current and proposed EU vehicle legislation, the new vehicle is fully certified to European Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval and ECE Regulation 107.
Powered by the tried and tested Cummins 4 cylinder (138kw or 155kw) iSBe Euro 5 compliant engine, the StreetLite® Max has a highly responsive, flexible and fuel efficient power plant, perfectly matched to the Voith D824.5E 4 speed fully automated gearbox with integral hydrodynamic retarder. The vehicle has also achieved an impressive 10-13 mpg during tests in service.
In common with smaller StreetLite® buses the new 11.5 metre Max model features daytime running lights, front crash protection and high visibility brake lights. The StreetLite Max also has a better turning circle than heavy duty single deck competitors. In addition operators will benefit from a Wrightbus ten year structural warranty and a 12 year design warranty.
“We’re extremely proud of our new StreetLite® Max,” added Mark Nodder. “The 11.5 metre vehicle bears the quality hallmark of Wrightbus and is challenging the traditional boundaries between the midi and full size single deck segment.”
As with all Wrightbus vehicles, StreetLite® Max comes with lifetime support from Wright Customcare. A network of Mobile Support Engineers and Customer Service Centres minimises any unplanned downtime through efficient servicing, repairs and parts support.
Since the launch in June 2010, StreetLite® has in its various formats, proven a hugely popular choice with leading operators from across the UK and Ireland, with over 100 vehicles delivered to companies including, Arriva, Go Ahead, Stagecoach, Reading Transport and Thamesdown Transport.
