Dandong port launches north to south grain service to Guangdong

  05.06.2012

Chinese coastline's northernmost Dandong port has launched a service carrying grain to the south Guangdong, reports Xinhua.
The port will continue to launch more such service to Fujian and Guangxi in these two years. It will shape itself as a complex grain logistics hub consisting of transshipment, process, warehouse, trade and forward transport business for grain.
The northeast is China's major grain producing area while Heilongjiang is the largest province for grain production. The northeast China's three provinces produced 1.08 million tonnes in 2011, accounting for 18.9 per cent of the country's total.
However, limited by the railway transport capacity, grain produced in the northeast have to be transported to the south by shipping. The new service can eliminate the detouring to Dalian port and Yingkou port. Grains can be transported to Dandong port via railway or highway with a time and cost save.
Dandong port has four 50,000-tonne grain berths and serves as a grain transshipment base of one million tonnes of warehouse capacity. Geographically, the port is the most convenient sea-rail transport gateway linking to Russia, Mongolia, North Korea, South Korea and Japan, and the junction between Korean peninsula and Eurasia. It plans to build over 60 deep-water berth with a throughput more than 200 million tonnes in the coming four years.
