DB Schenker starts labelling medical products in accordance with future IATA regulation
DB Schenker Logistics says its has developed and put into use a labelling procedure on behalf of its customers that meets all the requirements of an International Air Transport Association (IATA) regulation for shipping time and temperature-sensitive medical products ahead of the rule's mandatory July 1 introduction worldwide, according to the Shipping Gazette. From this date onwards such products will require a time and temperature label, which is intended to ensure proper handling. Requirements and standards for healthcare products are set out in chapter 17 of the IATA Perishable Cargo Regulations.
The IT solution developed by the company integrates the IATA chapter 17 label into the DB Schenker airfreight barcode and is recognized by IATA. The company also offers its customers a manual procedure in which its employees place the temperature and IATA labels on airfreight in addition to its own airfreight label, a company statement said.
Thomas Mack, senior vice president and head of global airfreight at Schenker AG said, "Thanks to the label, senders can now be certain that their consignments will be accepted by airlines and transported in accordance with IATA regulations."
