Some 150,000 drivers were caught driving and talking on their mobile phone in Austria in 2011, new figures reveal.
In Burgenland statistically the least people were caught in relation to the population, whereas in Styria and Carinthia the most drivers were caught.
In Burgenland 2,800 people were punished for driving and talking on their mobile phones without hands-free kits.
Franz Füzi, from Burgenland police, said: "It's not just talking on your phone that is an offence. Sending text messages and surfing the internet is also illegal."
Using the mobile phone whilst driving has been banned in Austria since 1999. The fine if caught varies between 50-72 Euro, according to Austrian Times.
