State Project Development & Research Institute of Marine Transport CHERNOMORNIIPROEKT worked out a preliminary design and project proposals for the development of road and rail infrastructure in the port of Illichivsk, taking into account a perspective cargo turnover for the period up to 2025.
The adopted project solutions involve construction of new roads and renovation of existing intra-port and outside the port roads. In view of the reconstruction of existing facilities and construction of new cargo handling complexes, the Port of Illichivsk will increase its capacity from the present 30 million tons up to 55 million tons of cargo per year. Experts of the Institute have confirmed the necessity for dredging in the approach channel and at berths up to 17 meters as it is specified in the Port Development Program.
At present the Port of Illichivsk Authority has negotiations with potential investors to implement the above projects according to the Port Development Program. In particular, the company “Sunshine Terminal”, founded on the initiative of the companies “CARGILL” and RISOIL S. A. applied with a proposal to build a new Grain Terminal with annual cargo handling capacity of 4.5 million tons. JSC “Illichivsk Oils and Fats Industrial Complex” also submitted a proposal for construction of Grain Terminal with a capacity of 5 million tons a year within the Complex territory.
“Sea Commercial Port of Illichivsk is open for proposals of the Ukrainian and foreign investors. Today we see a number of new projects that will be beneficial for the enterprise and to the state, but their implementation requires a good infrastructure. Institute CHERNOMORNIIPROEKT throughout the history of Illichivsk port acted as a general designer and knows very well our capabilities and potential. Therefore, researches of the Institute will be the basis for the implementation of the whole Development Program in the port of Illichivsk, “- said Alexander Grygorashenko, the General Director of the Port.
It is planned that in the near future, the administration of the Port together with investors, “Ukrzaliznytsya” and the local authorities will create a comprehensive Program for development of the outer rail and road infrastructure to be included in Illichivsk Development Master Plan.
Should be reminded that in 2005 the Institute worked out “Master Plan for the future development of the Sea Commercial Port of Illichivsk up to 2020”. This Master plan became the basis for the Development Program of the State Enterprise “SCPI” up to 2015, which was approved by the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Ukraine dated April 3, 2009 No. 367.
