Air India's unions plead with aviation minister to stop strike

  22.06.2012

Air India has suffered a 40-day strike by 300 pilots of the Indian Pilots' Guild (IPG) over training of domestic fleet pilots on Boeing 787 Dreamliner and unions writing to Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh say it must stop.
The letter from six unions comprising cabin crew personnel, engineers and commercial staff, said management's de-recognition of the Indian Commercial Pilots Association (ICPA) and its firing of striking long-haul pilots rules out any chance of resolution, said a senior officer bearer of the forum, reports Delhi's Hindustan Times.
As many as 30 pilots have called in sick from fatigue out of a pool of 150 management pilots warning of terminating international operations over fear of being over-stretched.
