GAC starts Britain-to-Turkey trucking service
Dubai's GAC, a global provider of logistics services, has started offering a new road freight groupage service that connects Turkey to the UK, in a bid to meet the needs of its clients and growing demand for less-than-truckload (LTL) transport across Europe, according to the Shipping Gazette.
The new service offering comes amid a period of rapid growth in Turkey, which achieved seven per cent GDP growth in 2011.
The service, which leaves Britain daily and Turkey twice a week, can also incorporate stop-offs in Germany, France, Belgium, and Rotterdam in the Netherlands, where GAC's regional base is located.
Istanbul is emerging as a hub for exporters and importers, especially, from the fast-growing CIS countries and Iraq, and there is a clear need for competitive road freight solutions to and from Turkey, where the group has nine offices, said GAC vice president Ivo Verheyen.
"This latest development of our core services builds on our strengths and expertise, including project logistics, in both Turkey and the UK, where we have nearly 30 offices. It was a natural step for GAC in Europe," said Mr Verheyen. "The new groupage services represents our response to the rapid development of infrastructure and industry in and around Turkey, meeting new, increased demand with simple solutions built on close communication and reliability."
