Wuhan port to offer waterway container consolidation service
Wuhan recently became the first port to offer waterway container consolidation service in mainland China by cooperating with a Shanghai freight forwarder, Xinhua reports.
Less-than-container-load shipments can now be transported to the Wuhan's Yangluo port area and be consolidated and loaded onto containers bound for Shanghai. After arrival at Shanghai, customs officers will unseal the containers and reconsolidate the cargo according to their export destination. The new service can help to reduce transportation cost of every tonne of cargo to about CNY200 (US$31.4).
If shipped overland to Shanghai, each tonne of shipments from Wuhan would cost CNY500 for transport and warehousing.
