Jaxport boosted its container business

The northeastern Florida port of JAXPORT has boosted its container business after its TraPac container terminal welcomed the first call by Taiwan's flag carrier Evergreen.
The 5,300 TEU Ever Unique called at the port as part of a new service which Evergreen is operating with MOL. The South China/Vietnam/US Southeast (SVS/AUE3) sling moves cargo from Vietnam, South China and Singapore via the Suez Canal to Jacksonville and other destinations on the US east coast. MOL provides nine ships and Evergreen one vessel, each with a capacity range of 4,500 to 5,600 TEU.
Jaxport has seen its business increase recently as MSC started to call at the port after revamping its liner service to link the south eastern part of the US with central America by including direct call at Jacksonville, the London's Containerisation International reported.
JAXPORT's container throughput in the fiscal year ending September 30, 2011 increased to 900,433 TEU compared to its 2010 total of 826,580 TEU.
