Air France-KLM reports 7.8pc August cargo drop

Air France-KLM has posted a 7.8 per cent year-on-year decline in cargo in August attributed to weak Asia-Pacific and the Americas demand.
Offering 5.2 per cent less August capacity year on year, the carrier still experienced the load factor fall 1.7 per cent to 60.6 percentage points. Air France-KLM's cargo load factor also fell over the first eight months of 2012, dropping 2.6 per cent in the first eight months to 63.6 per cent.
Air freight to the Asia-Pacific region fell 11.9 per cent in August year on year despite a 16.4 per cent capacity cut.
Air freight to the Americas also declined year to date, down 7.1 per cent. But the August shrinkage also narrowed to 3.6 per cent drop. AF-KLM cut freight capacity to the Americas 0.7 per cent producing a load factor of 59.8 percentage points.
The carrier's cargo volumes were down 7.4 per cent to the currently buoyant Middle East and Africa and off 5.2 per cent to the Caribbean and Indian Ocean, the Shipping Gazette informs.
