Jebel Ali Port's Terminal 3 to be equipped with 19 Shanghai quay cranes

Dubai's global port operator DP World has signed agreements to purchase 19 ship-to-shore (STS) quay cranes and 50 rail mounted gantry (RMG) cranes for the new Terminal 3 at the Jebel Ali Port, according to the Shipping Gazette.
Trans Gulf Port Cranes LLC (TGPC) of Abu Dhabi will supply and install 10 STS quay cranes and 25 RMG cranes and Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co Ltd (ZPMC) will supply and install nine STS and 25 RMG cranes, reports Dredging Today.
The new container terminal is designed to handle four million TEU per annum. It has a 1,860-metre quay, berth depth of 17 metres and a 70-hectare yard. Total capacity at Jebel Ali Port will reach 19 million TEU when Terminal three starts operations in 2014.
"DP World remains committed to continuing to meet the needs of the region's growing markets and supporting the continued economic progress of the UAE and Dubai. The expansion of capacity at our flagship Jebel Ali Port is in line with market demands and the changing needs of our customers," said DP World chairman Ahmed Bin Sulayem.
Said a Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries spokesman: "We delivered our first crane to DP World in 2005 and our relations have gone from strength to strength."
In the first six months of 2012 DP World, UAE Region, of which Jebel Ali is the leading facility, handled 6.6 million TEU, an increase of 7.3 per cent compared to the same period last year.
