Port of Illichivsk will increase nominal annual capacity up to 76 million tons


On January 17, 2013 the Development Program for the Sea Commercial Port of Illichivsk  was approved by Volodymyr Kozak, the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine. In case of successful implementation of all plans and initiatives of the Program, the nominal annual capacity of the enterprise will be increased from the current 30 to 76 million tons.
“Specialists of the port have done extensive work analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of the enterprise, evaluation of opportunities and risks for further development. We’ve compared the competitive position of the port to other ports of Ukraine, Romania, Turkey, Georgia and Russia. On the basis of these data we can see some potential opportunities for increasing of freight traffic through the port of Illichivsk. We intend to use them in full and not miss the opportunities, revealing during the port industry reforming in Ukraine”, - has commented the port plans Mr. Alexander Grygorashenko, the General Director of the Port.
Development Program was worked out in full compliance with the Law of Ukraine “On sea ports” and it considers the way of port sector reforming, specified by the Law.
Among the investment projects which will be implemented in the enterprise are as follows:
- the program “Reconstruction of the approaching channel with increasing of depths up to 17 m. Construction of the offshore mooring No. 2 with dredging of the operational water-area, maneuvering zone and water approach to 17 m”. Execution of this project will allow the Port of Illichivsk to provide safe entry, maneuvering, mooring and further handling of Cape-size (capacity over 100 thousand tonsand tons) and  Post Panamax Plus container carriers with capacity of 8000 TEUs along with such deep-water ports as Yuzny, Constantza and Istanbul;
- the project to expand rail and road of port infrastructure with the prospect of construction new and reconstruction of existing intra-port and approach roads;
- a number of measures to improve energy efficiency of the enterprise. The Port plans to construct new and reconstruct existing transformer substations, replacement of berthing electric power systems, water supply systems, construction of a new substation “Port”. Execution of the above plans will enable the company to change the power consumption class of the enterprise, to decrease power consumption charges and to provide future port complexes with quality power supply.
The second block of the Program describes objects, which will be transferred to concessionaries in accordance with the Law of Ukraine “On sea ports”, for reconstruction, construction and operation of the complexes. According to the conjunctural analysis, the most promising of them are as follows: construction of the complexes for handling grain, vegetable oil, oilseed meal, containers, as well as development of multimodal complexes, increasing the capacities of LPG handling facilities.
According to port expert assessments, the implementation of all these plans will require attraction of 1 billion 400 million UAH. The projects will be carried out by joint efforts of the port, investors and Illichivsk Municipal Administration.
