WFS wins ground handling licence at Manchester Airport

Worldwide Flight Services (WFS) has been awarded a ground handling licence at Manchester Airport and won Turkish Airlines as its launch customer.
WFS will commence passenger and ramp handling at the airport in the North of England on 1st April 2013. It will provide a full range of handling services to airlines at Manchester Airport, including passenger check-in, gate services, baggage loading and unloading, cargo delivery to and from aircraft, aircraft despatch, operations and weight and balance. This new operation will complement WFS’ successful cargo operation at the airport and enable it to offer a complete portfolio of services to airlines in Manchester.
WFS will provide passenger and ramp handling for Turkish Airlines’ twice daily Airbus A319 and A320 flights to Istanbul. To lead its team in Manchester, WFS has appointed Gary Jenkins as General Manager and will initially create jobs for some 20 staff.
Paul Mallard, VP Business Development, Ground Handling at WFS, said: “Manchester is a thriving airport that serves more than 22 million passengers a year. It is an important strategic objective for WFS to be extending its international ground handling presence at major airports. We are extremely proud to be increasing our presence at Manchester Airport and to have won such a prestigious launch customer as Turkish Airlines. We are confident our handling expertise and quality of service will enable us to win more new contracts and to provide further job opportunities at the airport.”
WFS, which provides ground services for passengers and cargo at 120 airports globally, serves over 300 airline customers and supports the journeys of 50 million passengers a year through gateways including major U.S. cities, Bangkok and Paris Orly.
